Raspberry Pi 3 Model B+ Pinout & I²C Wiring Reference

BMP280 Pin Raspberry Pi Pin Header Physical Pin Function
VCC / VIN 3.3V Power Physical Pin 1 Power Supply (+3.3V DC)
GND Ground Physical Pin 6 Common Ground (0V)
SDA GPIO 2 (SDA1) Physical Pin 3 I²C Data Line
SCL GPIO 3 (SCL1) Physical Pin 5 I²C Clock Line
Hardware Connection Safeguards
  • Voltage Warning: Ensure breakout is powered from 3.3V (Pin 1). Direct 5V connection can permanently damage the BMP280 3.3V logic level pins.
  • I²C Address Selection: GY-BMP280 modules with SDO tied to GND default to address 0x76. Modules with SDO tied to VCC default to 0x77.
  • Bus Verification: Run sudo i2cdetect -y 1 in Raspberry Pi OS terminal to verify that 76 or 77 is illuminated.
